What vaccines are required for my pet to stay there?

For dogs, we require the following vaccinations:

  • Rabies

  • DHLPP-Cv (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Coronavirus)

  • Bordetella

  • Bivalent Influenza: H3N2 and H3N8 Influenza Combo

For cats:

  • Rabies

  • Prcc (Panleukemia, Rhinotraceitis, Calicivirus, Chlamydia)

  • Bordetella

For ferrets:

  • Rabies

  • Distemper

We are more than happy to vaccinate your pet while they are here if there are any vaccines they need.

General Policies

All boarding, playtime, and other authorized services performed while your pet is boarding must be paid in full prior to your pet’s stay.

We charge our full boarding price per overnight stay. For pets that are dropped off and picked up on the same day and are not boarding overnight (day boarding), we charge half of the overnight boarding price. Therefore, pets who have stayed overnight and are picked up after noon are considered day boarding and are charged for that day (half  of the overnight rate in addition to their overnight charge).

Pets will not be subject to 24-hour supervision by a person physically on the premises. Our hospital is fully-staffed during normal business hours of:

Monday-Friday: 7:00am - 7:00pm

Saturday: 8:00am-5:00pm

A receptionist will be here for boarding pick-up and food sales only on Sundays from 4:30pm-5:30pm.

Veterinary technicians, assistants, and pet care staff will be here during the day to care for pets when we are not open to the public on Sundays and holidays. There will not be someone physically on the premises after pets are cared for in the evening until they are cared for in the morning.

What is included in the standard boarding price?

We walk dogs three times a day every day of the year. Cats and exotic pets (ferrets, rabbits, birds, reptiles, etc.) are cared for three times a day, every day of the year. A veterinarian performs a “walk through” exam every morning and evening to ensure your pet is doing well during its stay. We feed Science Diet Sensitive Stomach twice a day, once at 7:00am and once at 4:00pm (we can adjust feeding times per owner request). There is no difference in price if you prefer us to feed the food you bring from home (a good idea if your pet is a picky eater, has a sensitive stomach, or is on a prescription diet). We also have veterinary technicians and assistants who can administer medications to your pet as needed. If you are boarding a small, exotic pet, we will need you to bring in the pet's enclosure as well as their food.

Additionally, if you pick up your pet after 12:00 pm, there is an additional charge (half of the nightly rate) to cover care for your pet that day.

What paperwork do I need to bring?

All boarders need to fill out a boarding sheet , one sheet per pet per visit. If you are a new client or if your pet is new to us, we will also need you to fill out our Welcome Sheet.  Some owners like to have a credit card on file (pdf), although it is not required. We have all of this paperwork available in-clinic, so don't panic if you forget it - however, if you are planning on filling it out here, expect to spend at least ten to fifteen minutes at our facility for check-in.

If your pet has received vaccinations from a different veterinary clinic, be sure to bring in their records since we do require all pets are current on vaccines in order to stay here.

What kind of pets do you board?

The Little Apple Veterinary Hospital is happy to board cats, dogs, and a variety of exotic pets like tortoises, lizards, birds, ferrets, rabbits, and everything in between!

Can two or more of my pets share a kennel?

It is our policy to limit one pet per cage. We can always have your pets board next to each other or across from each other so they can see each other.

What are "extras" I can get for my pet?

We offer fully customizable playtime for your pet. This playtime is separate from the times they are walked and cared for and is an additional charge. Many pet owners choose between 5 to 15 minutes either once or twice a day, however, we can do more than this as requested. We take care of the rest. Our playroom provides a secure, climate controlled play area for dogs, and the doors open to the fenced-in backyard.

We also offer grooming and bathing services that can be done while your pet is staying with us.

Do you board intact males and females?

Yes. However, we may possibly need to leash walk your dog in a separate yard, which is a different price than our standard boarding rate.

Do you board pit bulls, german shepherds, rottweilers, and other "dangerous" dog breeds?

We do! Due to Manhattan City Ordinance 6466, we are required to walk all "dangerous" breeds separately from other dogs. However, we would still love to see your pet here.
